    Excellent build quality, poor font

    Excellent build quality, poor font
Generally I would recommend these keycaps. The build quality is very solid and they're clearly much better than many stock keycaps. However, this can cause fit issues with SOME keyboards; more on that shortly. The font is terrible, but legible. Light transmission is great for what these keys are supposed to be. (See first and second photos for comparison against stock keycaps on the left, and these keycaps on the right.)Okay, so there is this ONE style of double shot PBT pudding keycaps that it seems EVERYONE uses. My guess is that they're all manufactured by the same plant in China, then it's sold under different brands. They all have breaks in the letters that are probably supposed to be stylish but just make some characters harder to read or look like they have printing defects. They don't. It's just the font. This font is also literally HALF the size of most stock keycap fonts: 1mm thick vs 1.98mm thick, measured with a caliper. (See 4th photo.) Also, some of the 10-key keycaps have a second row that is mostly illegible (unless using a bright color, like white) because the LEDs for backlit keycaps are at the top, not the middle or bottom. Overall, I'd rate the font choice a 2 out of 10. It's still legible, but much less so than most stock keys. /rant Surprisingly, the print quality of the font is superior to ABS, which I don't think is usually the case for PBT.The build quality, however, is superb. The keys are roughly 1.7mm thick, as opposed to roughly 1mm thick for my stock ABS keycaps. You can clearly see the build quality difference in my 4th, 5th, and 6th photos. That said, this CAN lead to a fit issue on some keyboards. I have the SteelSeries Apex Pro and while their keycaps are VERY similar to Cherry MX in shape, their LEDs are housed in a small piece of plastic that is taller at the back than Cherry MX, and the HyperX design is such that it becomes even thicker toward the top so the spacebar sticks if pressed too hard. (See 6th photo.) While that is what I'd call a catastrophic failure of a key, the fault is MOSTLY Steelseries, not HyperX. It'd be nice if it wasn't so thick as it's that area that causes the stick, but if SteelSeries had stuck with the standard LED placement it wouldn't be a problem. This is probably solvable by filing down the area around the LED housing, but note that it could be an issue, depending on your keyboard's switches.Overall, these are quality keycaps. Most people with a standard 104-key OEM layout will be fine if they don't dislike the font as much as I do.

Upon taking out all of my keys (T'was a long and taxing process), I began to put in all of my keys into my Drevo Tyrfing v2 Keyboard. (Outemu Keyswitches) Everything fit just as described, EXCEPT the space bar. The space bar went in totally fine, but the keycap felt as if it was sticky, as it would stop halfway whenever I released the key. After the keypress, I would have to maneuver it back up to the resting position. So my first instinct was to take the keycap off and spray some fantastik or cleaner on the inside of the slot where the + sign switch would go. (Anyone that play(ed)'s xbox/ps and had sticky buttons, knows that spraying down into the button and pressing it multiple times would fix. But this did not. So I was feeling kind of discouraged that I would have to use my other keycap as a replacement for the cap until they shipped me back a new one.

For the solution, I was still discouraged, until I remembered that WD-40 is an invention blessed by God himself. I sprayed some on the inside, and behold, it cleared the problem. I probably sprayed a little less than needed, cause it is still a tiny bit squeaky, but that is an easy fix.

Performance: Before the keycaps, with my after-market cherry brown switches(Outemu), I barely felt the click of a regular cherry brown with the other keycaps. With this i feel every click, and believe it or not. Has improved my overall movement in games like CSGO, Fortnite, Rocket Leauge, etc. Now before you judge me saying "How would keycaps improve performance?" I don't know, it could be placebo, or it could be that i feel every click, knowing where my character/car goes improves my performance.

LIGHTING: I mean I really can't put the lighting into justice. The caps shine through like I'm just typing on the color itself. Feels amazing, looks amazing. Pretty much all I can put here haha.

OVERALL: Could be a little cheaper..Maybe around $20, but for me, having my performance increase, makes this worth every bit of money.

Great caps, great quality. Bought these for a corsair rgb strafe by accident thinking they would fit, and 98% do!

The mount is + shaped so no issues with compatibility, the only problem I ran into was the windows key, space bar, function key and menu key on the bottom row. The spacing for the strafe keyboard is a bit different than the hyper X on the bottom row, I was lucky enough to still have my original windows, space, fn, and menu caps so I'm using those instead of the hyperX caps.

The caps feel great, nice satin finish, and show light from the leds really well. The diffusion is great, the angle of the key is also prefect and dips inward to the center so your fingers always fall in place naturally.

5 stars even with them not fitting, as that's my fault not theirs and it would fits 98%. I will be making a person project out of modifying the hyperX caps so that they do fit, because why not?

      5/5 would buy again.

They feel nice, smooth but with a hint of texture so your fingers don't just slide right off them. My old Razer keyboard had those smooth as glass keys which looked great, but I never really liked typing on it. These keys aren't "grippy", like some of the rubberized keys you can find out there, so keep looking if that's what you want. But they aren't perfectly smooth either.

Most RGB boards have the LED at the top of the switch. This means the translucent bottom of the HyperX keys won't glow evenly. Most of the light is at the top. My bottom row, especially the space bar, has very little light coming through. Noticeable when you're standing across the room looking at it, less of an issue looking straight down at it. The tops of the keys are illuminated pretty well, with the exception of the numpad. The text, and arrows, below the numbers are almost invisible. Took a star off for this as most all RGB keyboards have this type of LED setup and the keys should be designed with that in mind.

I put mine on a Bloody B945 keyboard, and they are almost perfect. The only key that's an issue is the caps lock. The B945 has the post offset instead of at the center of the key for some reason. There's plenty of room for the switch to be centered, but that's just how they did it. The key in this kit however has it's connector centered, so the key won't line up perfectly with the keys above and below it. This bugged me for about five minutes, but now I don't care. To be clear, the key works fine, it's just not perfectly aligned. But not by enough to be super noticeable if you didn't know it was like that already.

Finally, the font is bit off. As one other reviewer noted it almost looks like a printing error. The 6, 8, 9, 0, have breaks in the line top and bottom. Also the tiny little circles on the % are broken, as well as some lettering on keys like the PrtSc, PgDn, etc... It's not a mistake though, pretty clear looking over all the keys that it's the font they went with. I don't think it's a big deal but I could see how some would find it annoying.

Overall, nice keys that work with any standard layout mechanical keyboard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Used on SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL
Reviewed in Canada on January 15, 2023
These keycaps look AMAZING. The light shines through the lower white section brilliantly on my keyboard (SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL). Extremely happy with my purchase.

I also really like the texture of the top of them despite some people claiming that they feel like cheap plastic. I think they are quite decent grade plastic. I've been using them for over 2 years now (purchased in October 2020) and am very pleased to say that there's *nearly* no wear on the tops, unlike other default keycaps that end up getting polished within a few months, despite keeping clean hands and not eating while at the PC.

I'm using these keycaps as replacements to the factory defaults on my SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL ... considering the price of my keyboard, I'd expect something like these keycaps to already come with it. Nevertheless, the purchase was well worth it when you take into account the way they refract the RGB lighting as well as the caps' texture.

Only issue - and this was a known issue that I read about prior to purchasing - is that if you press the spacebar or either of the 2 shift keys too far down, they do get stuck down on the Apex Pro TKL (or presumably any other SteelSeries Apex line keyboards, as they are all designed the same, just with difference switches). This is hardly an issue though, as pressing those 3 keys that far/hard is not normal, and it is pretty easy to pull them back up if it does happen. Worth mentioning though for those people also purchasing for the same line of keyboards.
